Geocache Description:

22 September 2024, 08:30 - 09:00

I'm from eastern Pennsylvania and will be taking a quick trip up to Lubec, Maine with the K-Team to geocache and see the beautiful eastern coast of Maine.  I will be hosting this event, which will take place from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM in the parking lot on S. Lubec Road just south of the gate to enter Quoddy Head State Park.

This event will be a 30-minute meet & greet event near the easternmost point in the continental United States, the first location to experience sunrise and the autumnal equinox on September 22nd.

The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 8:43 AM.  It is at this time that the sun's rays shine directly on the equator of the Earth and both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres receive the same amount of sunlight.  Here at Quoddy Head (44 degrees north of the equator), it will be 12 hours and 9 minutes of sunlight.  Sunrise occurs at 6:15 AM, but the Autumnal Equinox occurs at 8:43 AM.
