Geocaching History:
May 1, 2000 - an announcement was made that Selective Availability would be lifted.
May 2, 2000 - at approximately midnight, EST Selective Availability lifted and the accuracy of GPS technology was greatly improved.
May 3, 2000 - Dave Ulmer hid a black bucket at N 45° 17.460 W 122° 24.800, filled with videos, books, software, and a slingshot as well as a logbook and pencil. He called it the First GPS Stash. He shared the waypoint of his "stash" with the online community on sci.geo.satellite-nav.
Within three days two different people read about his stash on the Internet, used their own GPS receivers to find the container and shared their experiences online. The sport of geocaching was born!

This year's Community Celebration Event:
The Time: 5:00 to 7:00 pm - with warm sunny weather scheduled.
The Location: Priest Point Park, Shelter 1, in the Rose Garden. In keeping with geocaching being an outdoor activity, this event is an outdoor event. (if the weather is truly horrid, we'll huddle in the pavilion)
Food: Bring your own beverages, a snack, or your "take-out" dinner to enjoy while visiting. You are welcome to bring snacks to share with all. The shelter does have tables.
The Schedule: (we'll do our best to stick to it; however, life occurs, so anticipate slight changes.
5 pm - event open to all. Sit and eat, go find caches, visit.
5:30 - walk to nearby earthcache, Name That Rock! - GCA7Z96, with the CO to discuss the answers for those wanting to claim a find.
6:15 - drawing for geocaching related items from my stash, plus many donated by other cachers. You have something you no longer want? Feel free to bring it for the drawing.'
6:30 - detailed instructions for those who would like to go after Payback 10: It's All About the Journey - GCQYBW
5 - 7 pm - at any time during event - share your thoughts about the new "treasures" feature. Comments will be noted to share with Groundspeak after the event. Also ask questions about how to solve puzzles. Go after caches you haven't found with others if you. (If you have found them all, you could help those who haven't yet found them.)
Stay tuned for any late breaking news and announcements!
