30 August 2025, 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
Lately it seems that my job has been taking up almost all of my time, and that's just not fair! Since this is the 25th anniversary of Geocaching though, and I've been caching for 20 of those 25 years, I decided to hold my "That's Not Fair" event this year with a theme that I've really enjoyed throughout the years -- tailgating! The Luv Wahoo events were always a good time, with awesome tailgate parties and an MLB game afterwards. Sadly my beloved Cleveland Indians no longer exist, and that's not fair!
Still, there are many other Cleveland area professional sports teams, as well as Ohio college teams to support, so come on out and enjoy a tailgate party while rooting for your favorite team. Heck, they don't even have to be from Ohio. Wear a shirt or jersey with your favorite team's logo on it if you wish. Let's get in the spirit of the old tailgating events, even though we won't be attending an actual game afterwards.
The event will take place between 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM at Claridon Recreational Park with its only entrance on Route 608. Hopefully I can get there early enough to claim at least a section of the pavilion, so we will not need to worry about rain or having to share it with the Amish community. I'll probably start to fire up the grill around 11:30 am. The park has lots of geocaches, so you can spend some time hunting for them if you've never been there before. There are also a couple of playground areas which might provide some fun for kids, young and old.
I will bring hamburgers and hot dogs, and maybe some other goodies, along with cold water, juice, and soda, and maybe some desserts for everyone to enjoy. If anyone else has a portable grill and can bring it along, that would be helpful. Also, if anyone wants to bring a side dish like we did at the old tailgating events, that would be great, but it is not absolutely necessary. If you do plan to bring something, please post it in your Will Attend log so we don't end up with 20 of the same item. Again, it is not necessary to bring anything, as we should have plenty of food, so come on out to tailgate and celebrate 25 Years of Geocaching, even if you only bring yourself.
Due to my insane work schedule, I won't really have a lot of time to plan anything special for the event, but I should be able to provide some nice door prizes, which will include geocaching items, as well as some goodies related to our local sporting teams. You might even see some old Cleveland Indians items too. Where have you gone Chief Wahoo?? That's just not fair!!
Once again this is Fair weekend! Labor Day weekend means the Great Geauga County Fair will be in session, extending its run as the oldest, continuous fair in Ohio and the second oldest, continuous fair in the country. The 2025 edition promises to be the best yet. But they say that every year. Is that fair? I guess someone thinks so. After the geocaching event is over, I will be heading over to the fairgrounds to partake in several of the festivities and milkshakes at this great county fair.
Note that you do not need to visit the fair to attend this event, but if you are planning to go to the fair anyway, stop on over and pick up another quick smiley along the way.
Again this year I have a limited supply of general admission tickets for entry to the fair if anyone is interested. Come to the event to pick one up. They should be good for any of the days the fair is in session in 2025. I also have a very limited number of tickets for the Demolition Derby event that takes place at the Main Grandstand on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. Let me know if you are interested in any of the entry or Demolition Derby tickets so that I can hold them for you. As always, I will try to be fair to everyone.
