Welcome to Trail Magic
A Geocaching Event Celebrating 25 years of Community
Friday, August 29th, 2025 10 am -1pm
RECAP:
WHO: All of you!
WHAT: A Geocaching event to gather, socialize and provide Trail Magic to PCT through hikers
WHERE: Pacific Crest Trail Parking area, McKenzie Pass, Hwy 242, Oregon 97702
For this event we will not only visit with each other, but we will visit with some PCT through hikers as they pass through McKenzie Pass. We will offer them cold refreshments, a hot dog lunch or sandwiches as well as snacks.
Not only is Geocaching 25 years old but the Pacific Crest Trail is also over 25 years old. This time of year hundreds of through hikers pass through our community as they seek to complete this trail before snowfall, weather or other circumstances prevent them from doing so. Many have been on the trail since April or early May.
We will provide some trail magic and hopefully meet some new people and make some new friends along the way.
Trail Magic: The term "Trail magic" has multiple meanings and it’s one of the truly wonderful aspects of the Pacific Crest Trail experience.
"The trail provides" the original meaning refers to the magical moments that happen on the trail.
Trail magic is often an act of goodwill that someone has performed.
PCT History: The PCT travels 2,650 miles through California, Oregon, and Washington. In California, the PCT travels through 15 National Forests. It also traverses Lassen Volcanic National Park (NP), Yosemite NP, Devils Post Pile National Monument, and Sequoia-Kings Canyon NP.
On October 2, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed the National Trail Systems Act, which named the PCT and the Appalachian Trail as the first national scenic trails. Over the next 20 years, land management agencies, the Pacific Crest Trail Association and other trail organizations, and countless volunteers constructed nearly 1,000 miles of trail. Finally, in 1993, at a golden spike ceremony in Soledad Canyon, California, the PCT was completed as a contiguous trail from Mexico to Canada.
