From April 2014 to June 2018, VPPlayer and CounselorTroi hosted a monthly puzzling event, called the Miami Valley Caching Conundrum.
For 50 months, they coordinated event space, crafted enigmas, proctored competitions, placed geocaches, disbursed prizes, and spread the love of puzzling. They did it with grace, persistence, patience, and humor. This event was the epitome of community. They welcomed veteran geocachers, cutthroat puzzlers, and neophytes with open arms and gave them equal standing.
A little over a year ago, VPPlayer went to play video poker in the great unknown. He left a massive hole in the lives of his family and friends, as well as the geocaching community. He was passionate about puzzling. And he was immensely talented at making and solving them. VPPlayer was a year-end Caching Conundrum champion and won gold medals at MOGA (Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure) puzzling competitions, the only person to win both. His skill in crafting conundrums matched his solving prowess. He had a genius for clever conceits, tight constructions, and glorious aha-moments. He left a glorious tableau of mystery caches in Central Ohio and the Miami Valley, a wonderful artifact of his creativity.
To me, VPPlayer, CounselorTroi, and the Miami Valley Caching Conundrum embody community, so could there be a better place to hold a Community Celebration Event?
Join us for a celebration of VPPlayer's life and geocaching legacy on December 20, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the spot where most of the MVCCs transpired. We have the private event room rented, where we can dine, party, and solve puzzles until our brains explode.
In addition to toasting the guest of honor, we will present a series of puzzles that highlight VPPlayer's interests. The group will work on 10 different mysteries with accompanying physical hides that will publish afterward. Bring your computers to both solve and work your way through the interactive experience. Smartphones will work, but the experience will be much better on a bigger screen.
Of course, non-puzzlers are welcome to join the festivities. Tackling the mysteries is in no way required, but it will be fun. Feel free to come snag one last Community Celebration icon while toasting a fantastic member of Miami Valley's cadre.
