Today marks 12 years of caching for me and what better way to celebrate than to host my major award, a CCE? Even though last year I turned it up to 11 (GCAVKJC), there will not be 12 drummers drumming. Spinal Tap made me assume drummers spontaneously combust and if there were 12 of them, it could get messy.
As I thought about this special event, I wondered how I could celebrate the geocaching community even more. Well, how about potentially adding to the local geocaching community?
I have worked with the Lisle Park District to have this event added to the Park District catalog for the summer as a class for others to learn about geocaching. I have a couple of experienced cachers already volunteering time to help teach those that sign up about caching, including be willing to go out to some of the caches with the students (thanks Pez and Reetaville). Hopefully some of the other experienced cachers that may attend will be willing to help teach a person to cache (and show them probably).
For those that attend and haven't already explored the Lisle Park District via a unique Multi (GC7H5FM) now could be your perfect chance as it will be available on a Sunday. So much to celebrate.
Time
12:00-3:00 PM
Schedule
12:00-1:00 - Experienced geocachers gathering before Park District event time. Trade out trackables, sign the log, enjoy food and beverages that I will bring in for the event. For those not teaching caching, no need to stay, but all are welcome to hang around.
Lesson Plan (For those signing up to help instruct as needed)
1:00-1:30 - Teach muggles about the basics of caching. Coordinates, D/T meaning, types of caches.
1:30-2:30 - Show muggles how to cache by heading out into Community Park and helping them locate caches that are already placed and already published (I am going to try and get a new cache or two in the area posted as well).
2:30-3:00 - Wrap up. For the teachers, a major award may be waiting for them, caching related of course.
