ravens rock: Thanks to everyone who attended this GIFF Community Celebration event. We're now archiving the event, and don't forget to download any of Mr LANMonkey's photos that are available for us until the end of the year (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13Xc92RMzlstvMv0Q36sbiqpMau6Y9INN).

AND THE WINNER IS ...

First, let’s do the numbers:

There were 61 filmmakers from 21 countries who submitted a film for consideration this year.
20 films from 10 countries were selected as finalists.
The final films were viewed at 634 Events across 92 countries, territories, and regions.
Event attendees earned 16,335 (and counting!) GIFF 2025 souvenirs.
And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… the GIFF Award winners!

The votes have been counted, and we are excited to present this year’s film festival awards: the Signal Award and the People’s Choice Award.

The Signal Award winner is selected by a panel of geocaching community volunteers from around the world. They are asked to consider production quality, content, creativity, and contribution to the global geocaching community.

The People’s Choice Award is chosen by geocachers like you! Nearly 10,000 geocachers voted in this year’s People’s Choice Award for their favorite film.

This year, an interesting phenomenon occurred: volunteers and geocachers chose the same winner.

This year’s Signal Award and People’s Choice Award winner is…

HARD WORK by Harogs Team
(harogs, geocachingclown, and commge)

This Swiss film answered the age-old question: “How do gadget caches work?” They’re powered by tiny workers, of course! These brave employees work day and night to operate the mechanisms that power the most complex caches.

Honorable mentions: With so many great films this year, we wanted to acknowledge some of the other popular films, as voted by volunteers and geocachers.

Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all the filmmakers for contributing to an amazing season of GIFF fun. Watch all the GIFF 2025 finalist films on HQ's YouTube channel.

Finally, we’d like to issue a correction and apology to finalist JustCarlo. The GIFF 2025 title page for his film Never A Straight Path listed his location as the USA. This should have been Canada.

Geocache Description:

 — Geocaching International Film Festival 2025 —

This year's GIFF theme is "TFTC—Thanks for the Community!" so get your fancy duds on for this RED CARPET event! Come and join our fabulous geocaching community for a night of fun and laughter as we enjoy the films created by geocachers from around the world. This year's films celebrate the moments, friendships, and adventures that make our game so meaningful.

Unfamiliar with GIFF? Every second year, geocachers from all over the world are invited to submit their own films about geocaching. HQ selects a short list and creates a 1-hour film reel that can be shown at Official GIFF events. Last GIFF season, more than 16,000 geocachers attended 425 events hosted across 40 countries! Here is your chance to see the films in Richmond!

Location: Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate, Richmond, BC.
Date and Time: November 10, 2025, 6:15 - 8:30 pm

What to Expect:

This year's GIFF has been nothing short of inspiring. More than 60 filmmakers from 21 countries submitted their work to the 11th biennial festival, offering an incredible array of voices, ideas, and creativity. After much deliberation, the judges selected 20 finalist films that shine for their originality, production quality, and their contribution to the global geocaching community. The finalists are:

Come celebrate geocaching, connect with fellow adventurers, get your photo taken on the red carpet, and enjoy an evening of unforgettable storytelling. Muggles are welcome, so bring your friends. We can't wait to see you there!

Our local geocacher JustCarlo will also be there—he's a GIFF finalist with his short film, Never a Straight Path.

Doors open at 6:15 pm for socializing. Snacks and beverages will be available by donation. At 6:30 pm, we'll take our seats to start the show. There'll be a few breaks during the film reel to jot down your voting notes, snack, stretch, and we'll draw some prizes. After the film reel, you'll have more time for socializing, and most importantly, voting for your favourite film. The event will conclude at 8:30 pm.

The event is limited to 90 people. Please log your Will Attend and specify how many people are in your group. Thank you! The event is free to attend as Richmond Geocaching and the Richmond GeoTour have generously offered their event space for this gathering.

There may also be a GIFF-themed Adventure Lab on site.

By attending this event, you'll be awarded both the 2025 Geocaching International Film Festival (GIFF) and Community Celebration Event (CCE) souvenirs. (Note: If you already have either of these souvenirs, you will not be awarded a second one.)

And, finally, a BIG thanks to our Sponsors:

and The Sharkz Store in Victoria for providing a gift certificate door prize!
