Geocache Description:

25 Challenges for 25 years of Geocaching!

This cache is NOT placed at the posted coordinates, GZ is listed as a visible waypoint.

To support Victoria's first ever Block Party, event mascot Muggle the Puggle has teamed up with geocachers across Victoria to place a range of caches for you all to find & enjoy. Whether you visit before, during, or after The Sunbury Event, we hope you enjoy your time in Sunbury & the surrounding areas of Hume.

This series of 25 Challenge Caches are all themed around the number 25 (some more loosely than others). Happy 25 years!

This challenge has not been deliberately designed to exclude or discriminate against any Geocachers, but to create a sense of achievement when you reach certain goals. Feel free to sign this cache at any time, but to claim the find you must qualify for the challenge. If you do not qualify, you may add a 'write note' log until such time that you do qualify. The challenge checker at the bottom of this page will tell you if you qualify. This challenge has been placed in compliance with the Challenge Cache Guidelines and the  Victorian Regional Policy.

Muggle the Puggle's Challenge #24 - Legacy Cache Challenge

Over time geocaching has evolved. New things have been added to the game, but others have also been removed. Guideline 2.26 covers cache types that are currently considered Legacy Cache Types. Current Legacy caches include:

Virtual Caches: Geocaching Headquarters ceased allowing cachers to hide Virtual Caches in 2005. This cache type involved undertaking an additional logging activity (e.g. answering a question at the location and messaging the CO the answer). More recently, HQ has released limited numbers of Virtual caches to selected players, the most recent of which was Virtual Rewards 4.0

Webcam Caches: These caches involved visiting a location with a webcam, a video camera that displayed its images on a website. Finders needed to attach a picture of themselves captured by the webcam in order to claim a find on the cache. This cache type was somewhat problematic and lead to it following the same path as virtuals, with no new hides permitted. There are now less than 200 webcam caches left in the world, and only 4 in Australia.

Locationless caches: These caches are exactly as the name suggests, they were not in a specific location. Rather, finders would complete a logging task of some sort that could be completed anywhere in the world. Hiding of this cache type has also ceased, and all locationless caches were archived/converted to waymarks. Occasionally, Headquarters will release a locationless cache that is available to log for a limited time. The latest of these is 'Where's 25?' which can be logged anywhere in the world during 2025.

Challenge Caches (Pre-2016): Challenges caches are the 'odd one out' of this group. In that they are not a cache type (but rather a subset of the unknown/mystery' cache type, and they can still be hidden today. Due to a number of issues, a moratorium was placed on challenge caches was called by HQ in 2015. This meant that no new challenges could be published. This gave HQ the opportunity to engage with the caching community and develop guidelines around the placement of challenge caches in an effort to mitigate the issues that plagued them pre-moratorium. In 2016, the moratorium was lifted and challenge caches could again be published, but with certain restrictions.

All active webcams, older virtuals and pre2016 challenge caches are considered 'grandfathered'. This means that they can continue to exist, but HQ reserves the right to archive these at any time.

So we have 4 different categories of legacy caches. And a theme of 25. Multiple the two together and you get 100. So your challenge is to have at least 100 finds across legacy caches. Noting that webcams and locationless are incredibly limited, there is no requirement to have found all 4 types. 100 virtuals alone will see you succeed here.
