Come gather, and get a proper good start to International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen, we are here to help you get on board with this fun, "just because we can" holiday.
We will meet from 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM at a location that can provide optional drinks and eats, so bring your gold doubloons if you are interested in that!
The CO will be “channeling” Blackbeard, so if you like to not only Talk Like a Pirate, but also dress like one, feel free to join in the merriment in that manner as well!
As usual, there will be many a story told regarding our "nerdy pirate" endeavors, so bring yours, and perhaps set up a parley regarding any DNFs you’ve experienced.
To help ye celebrate here are the 5 A’s of Pirate Speak -
Ahoy! - "Hello!"
Avast! - Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, "Whoa! Get a load of that!" which today makes it more of a "Check it out" or "No way!" or "Get off!"
Aye! - "Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did."
Aye aye! - "I'll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over."
Arrr! - This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. "Arrr!" can mean, variously, "yes," "I agree," "I'm happy," and "That was a clever remark you or I just made." And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!
