בשנת 1921 הגיעו לשטח עליו קיים כיום קיבוץ עין שמר קבוצה של אנשי ארגון השומר במטרה להקים במקום נקודת שמירה. בין אזור יהודה, עמק יזרעאל והגליל. בעקבות התנאים הקשים לא שרדו המתיישבים במקום. בשנת 1917 התיישבו במקום עשרה מחברי קבוצת "אחדות" שהתגוררו בשני צריפים ועסקו בחקלאות. ב-1921 נבנתה על ידי אנשי גדוד העבודה חצר מבוצרת ששטחה ארבעה דונם. החצר הוקפה בחומה בגובה של שני מטרים ובה חרכי ירייה, שער ברזל גדול ובית אבן בן שתי קומות. אנשי גדוד העבודה לא הצליחו להחזיק במקום והוא ננטש על ידם. בשנת 1927 התיישבו במקום אנשי השומר הצעיר ושנה זו נחשבת לשנת ייסודו של קיבוץ עין שמר. ב-1934 חוברה החצר לרשת החשמל ושנה לאחר מכן התגלו בה מים. החצר שוחזרה ובשנת 1983 נפתח במקום מוזיאון החצר הישנה.
The Old Yard is a museum that deals with the history of the pioneering settlement in the years before the establishment of the State of Israel. In 1921, a group of members of the Hashomer organization arrived at the area where Kibbutz Ein Shemer currently exists, with the aim of establishing a guard point there. Between the Judean region, the Jezreel Valley and the Galilee. Due to the harsh conditions, the settlers did not survive. In 1917, ten members of the "Ahedot" group settled there, living in two huts and engaged in agriculture. In 1921, a fortified yard with an area of four dunams was built by the members of the labor battalion. The yard was surrounded by a two-meter-high wall with loopholes, a large iron gate, and a two-story stone house. The men of the labor battalion were unable to hold the place and it was abandoned by them. In 1927 the people of Hashomer Hatzair settled there and this year is considered the founding year of Kibbutz Ein Shemer. In 1934 the yard was connected to the electricity grid and a year later water was discovered in it. The courtyard was restored and in 1983 the museum of the old courtyard was opened there.
