I'm rebranding this event and going forward it will be called CLY ( Christmas Lunch & Yankee Swap)
With Chritmas coming up I thought it would be fun to do a geocaching lunch to celebrate and also do a Yankee Swap as well!
For those who don't know a Yankee Swap is a popular Christmas event where people compete to walk away with the best present! It also goes by Dirty Santa, White Elephant Gift Exchange, and a plethora of other names. Participation in the Yankee Swap is optional and if you only want to come for the lunch that is fine! If you are coming to the event I ask that you please log your will attend log by 5 PM on Friday December 6th so I can tell the establishment the total number of people that are coming! Also Please indicate of you are taking part in the Yankee Swap so I have enough ballots for the game! The event will have a log book that is optional to sign!
Sidenote: The party room holds up to 35 people so if this event does fill up before the RSVP deadline and you wish to attend you will have to sit in the restureant outside of the party room.
How it works!
1. Each player brings one wrapped gift to contribute to a common pool
2. Players draw numbers to determine what order they will go in
3. Players sit in a circle or line where they can see the gift pile
4. The first player selects a gift from the pool and opens it
5. The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pool or steal a previous player’s gift. Anyone who gets their gift stolen in this way can do the same – choose a new gift or steal from someone else.
To keep things moving along, there are a couple of limits on gift swapping:
- A present can only be stolen once per turn, which means players who have a gift stolen from them have to wait to get it back.
- After three swaps, the turn automatically comes to an end (otherwise things could drag on for a long time).
- We will take a vote at the event if we want to play Three Swaps and the person/gift is out rule
6. After all players have had a turn, the first player gets a chance to swap the gift he or she is holding for any other opened gift. Anyone whose gift is stolen may steal from someone else (as long as that person hasn’t been stolen from yet). When someone declines to steal a gift, the game comes to an end.
Spending limit on the gifts should be $10 - $15. The gift you bring must be Family Friendly!
