This cache has been placed as part of a geocoin challenge, the launch of which will be/was held during the annual Tomlinson Lake Hike to Freedom (TLHTF) on Oct 5, 2024. There are/were 100 coins available, one per geocaching name until they are gone. Players need to find 4 TLHTF Trail caches and one ACHH2 geotour cache to claim a coin. The passport for recording the codes found in the caches is available here. The theme of the TLHTF Trail caches is the history of the trail.
Joe Gee and Graham Nickerson, together with a corps of volunteers, created the first version of the trail in 2013 and hosted an annual hiking event along it until 2020. At that time the impact of COVID-19 resulted in a pause in the hikes and then a need for the route to be changed as the landowners withdrew their support for the trail and annual hike.
Permission to access the area around the lake was obtained from the Crabbe and Dunlap families who own the land. Joe Gee, Graham Nickerson and volunteers were able to partially complete the planned footpath around the lake so that the hiking event could take place in 2023.
CRAG worked with Captain No Beard and the Pi Rats to have their virtual cache ( GC88YRP), which had been temporarily disabled, to be designated as an ACHH2 geotour cache and re-activated. Additionally CRAG placed 2 more ACHH2 geotour caches on the new trail and held a Meet & Greet. This was the start of a partnership with the Tomlinson Lake Hike to Freedom non-profit to tell little known stories.
This is a location that can be enjoyed at any time of the year. It is recommended that you wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, carry a hiking pole, and allow lots of time to drink in the serenity of the location.
