Geocache Description:

28 September 2024, 13:00 - 15:00

Join a group of like minded Geocachers and spend a couple of hours clearing weeds from the Chemin de Ronde or perimeter path at Crownhill Fort. This event is suitable for participants of all ages and we will do our best to accommodate all levels of mobility. Please meet in the Guardroom for 1pm so I can deliver the introductory briefing.

What?
There are a few tasks available including hand pulling weeds from a path and removing woody plants from the curtain wall using a small ladder  and garden tools. The path is about 900m long and we will see how much we can clear in an hour or so. Stout footwear is recommended even through the path is gravelled.

When?
The event takes place between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 28th September. There will be a logbook to register your attendance and a table where trackables can be discovered or exchanged.

Where?
The parking waypoint coordinates will take you to a gravelled parking area just outside Crownhill Fort. This is usually reserved for permit holders but will be available on the day without charge.

Why?
Working as part of a team is incredibly rewarding and your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Participants will see one of Britain's best preserved defences from a completely different perspective and can meet and chat with other like minded geocachers.

What to bring:

  • stout footwear
  • old clothes appropriate to the weather conditions on the day
  • gloves

If you can bring the following they would be useful:

  • a pruning saw to remove weeds or saplings
  • a change of clothes for afterwards

Notes:
Only assistance dogs are permitted inside the Fort so please make alternative arrangements for your furry friends.
I ask anyone who does not consider themselves physically capable of the work to contact me, I am keen not to exclude anyone and hope we can find you something productive to do.
Needless to say, everyone takes part at their own risk!

Thanks!
Thanks to The Landmark Trust who own and manage Crownhill Fort. Two volunteer marshals have offered to assist with this event and I am grateful to them for giving their time.
There will be an optional short tour of the Fort after the event has ended; joining this is not necessary to log 'attended'
