This set of toilets was opened within about the last two or three years at the time the carpark was extensively enlarged. Tracks on the hills surrounding these facilities were established decades ago by people who enjoyed walking. From about the mid to late1980's the occassional intrepid mountain biker would be spotted and as mountain biking became more popular they started to modify the walking tracks to suit their tastes. With funding from the DCC extensive work was undertaken with machinery and it was up to the locals to stop the bulldozing of protected heritage features such as a trout hatchery that ended up being partially damaged. Today there is an much more extensive track network than before and memories of the original walking tracks is fast disappearing. The current tracks are for shared walking, cycling and running. There is one called the Big Easy for those who want to cycle up without having an unforgiving gradient to deal with. You do not need to climb any of these tracks to find the cache. If you drove to the starting coordinates it would be best to leave the car there and walk to the cache, especially during school time.
The facilities are located at the edge of the car park that can easily hold 60 plus cars. You will see three door facing out onto a covered porch. The one to the left is wheelchair accessible and the other two are long and narrow. all the loos are stainless steel and the unusual thing I noticed is the lack of the white plastic seat and lid. instead of a comfy seat the rims on the side of the bowl have some synthetic product to prevent you backside comming into contact with the cold stainless steel. all have their flush button on the wall with the cistern behind the wall. All units have the dual toilet paper halder and a waste disposal unit. Only the wheelchair accessible unit has a soap dispenser and hand basin. I didn't observe any hand drying facilities. Those using the narrow units need to exit their unit for handwashing facilities on the porch.
Currently the cache is only a small screw top container (about 600ml I think) as I couldn't get my hands on a regular size at the time and when the opportunity arises I will swap it out for a larger one. Please to not interfer with any of the pest traps or bait stations. The cache is below the trap line, black and on the ground.
