Welcome to the Oregon Cache Odyssey geocache. It is a Letterbox Hybrid cache type that pays homage to an older form of a scavenger hunt called Letterboxing.
This cache contains a signature stamp that stays with the box. Traditionally letterbox seekers have their own signature stamp to make their mark in letterbox logbooks, and they collect letterbox stamps from the boxes they find in their personal book. To seek a letterbox hybrid cache, you will *not* need your own personal stamp or logbook. However, if you have a personal stamp bring it to add to the logbook in this cache. Bring the Cache Odyseey GeoTour passport, your personal logbook, or blank paper to collect a stamp from the signature stamp in this cache. Each stamp in the Cache Odyseey series is unique to its state and the series.
*****THE CACHE ODYSSEY STAMP IN THIS CACHE MUST STAY IN THE CACHE TO PRESERVE THE INTEGRITY OF THIS LETTERBOX HYBRID CACHE******
You can find this cache using only your GPS, but in letterboxing fashion here are a few hints to get the lock combination and then to the hiding spot:
- At the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum Gift Shop building take notice of these three things in this order and use the numbers to unlock the padlock on the cache:
- How many round bells are there on the red alarm on the front of the building?
- Each of the five dormers has a window. How many panes are in the top arched half of the window?
- How many windows are above the double entrance doors?
- Spot the outdoor deck.
- Explore the deck for a large item that blends in with its surroundings.
- Notice the geocaching symbol and lock to confirm you found the cache.
- Use the three numbers to unlock the cache.
There could be non-geocachers on the deck, especially in nice weather. You may find it a good opportunity to introduce them to geocaching. No need to worry about them messing with the cache as you'll be locking it up when you leave.
This cache has plenty of room for travel bugs and trackables and their hitchhikers.
