The King with his standard dominated the centre ground. Percy's archers brought a rain of arrows upon him, but he was not easilty defeated.
Eventually Percy (nicknamed Hotspur) lost his patience and charged! In the melee that followed Percy was killed. It was such a confusing battle that afterwards many men didn't even know which side had won!
This is a 1.5mile walk around the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury fought between the Percy family and the then King of England Henry IV. A tranquil area with an occasonal information board which provide a good taste of the battle and history. There is also a farm shop. cafe and museum located a short walk from the church.
