Geocache Description:

A "large feet" memorial was recently discovered in the middle of the Capitol City.  Researchers believe it is a symbolic memorial to the disaster in Portlock, where about 75 years earlier the entire population of the town just disappeared.

Little discussion about Portlock has been previously documented within Alaska, suggesting the topic is taboo among Alaskans. However much has been published outside of Alaska and its connection to "large feet" (see research published by outside cultures here  here  here and here).

The memorial itself has only impied connection to Portlock and minimal signage in the common language.  Thus the memorial seems to carefully respect the local taboo while allowing the somber reflection intended by the memorial.

Further investigation is warranted to discover whether there are any hidden artifacts in the area.
