Dear Geo-Friend and Beloved LetterBoxer;
\I have found the most wondrous object. And wish to share its magic with you. What is it? You say.
The long lost Oracle of Marshall’s Corner. I’m certain you remember the edifices on route 31, now nothing but macadam lots remain after the building mysteriously disappeared. "Marshall's Corner", named after William Marshall opened a general store in1820.
In addition to a store and school, the early settlement had a blacksmith shop and a wheelwright.
Now vanished, mysteriously! and along with it. The fabled Oracle of 8.
But, praise be! I have located it. The tales are true, Ask any question you wish of forture or love and you shall get the answer, although some times she will say “try again” so…
I have hidden the Oracle of 8 nearby and will allow only fellow geo-letterboxers to find their secret desires, lest muggles use it for evil purposes,
Follow my instruction to the letter,
Arrive at the posted coordinates for parking/Kiosk (PK per above).
Take a second to admire the large and beautiful, verdant meadow before you. Note the Kiosk at parking.
At the Kiosk point you compass at 00 and go swiftly to coords for AY, beware of falling walnuts and unstable ash trees and roving gangs of dog-walkers, field mice and migrating birds. This is not an easy nor short task but rewarding. Fame fortune and happiness await, especially if you are FTF
When you pass the Organic Farm sign on your east, read and continue straight until you come to another sign ↔ , stay straight and left.
Whence you come to the fork in the road, take it” Yogi Berra. OK, I couldn't resist, at the Y go left. Coords are listed as AY.
Up a steep hill and down, see the strange roots on a crab apple tree before the turn?
Ignore them, I just thought they were interesting.
Up another big incline and down. Ahead is a gate, (if you’re wondering what the enclosure is. It’s where the deer go to hide during hunting season.
If the gate opens away from you, quickly close the gate, and note the ← to the left of the gate. Then quickly do not hesitate, go exactly 132 paces, not steps.
and you will see to your left a tributary of Stony Brook and large tree then you will maybe realize suddenly that that gate opened outward towards you. Try to pay attention next time.
Return to gate. Open it TOWARDS YOU. Enter, behind the red maple immediately to your right is the letterbox and Oracle of 8 attached to the stamp. Ask what you will. But first you must stamp or sign the book.
When you exit you may turn right an then take the “long loop trail” and get lost or return the way you came. Ask the Oracle which is best.
Good Luck
You Geo-pal S’well
