In the 14th century, the Ottoman Empire occupied the Greek Empire. From 1824, a hundred-year struggle for liberation began. In 1974, the military conflict over the island of Cyprus followed, with 200,000 Greeks fleeing from the Turks and 45,000 Turks fleeing from the Greeks to the other part of the island. During this conflict, numerous bunkers were built on the coast of Rhodes, many of them can still be seen today. They were intended to protect the soldiers if the island was attacked from the sea.
