History
The single-storey range of 8 almshouses in Fulbourn, situated to the north of St Vigor’s Church, are dated 1864 on a panel to the gable end of the porch. The range was built of white brick with a tile roof. The almshouses have pointed and chamfered arch recesses to the windows which have two and three trefoil lights with original glazing bars. There are four gabled porches with pointed outer arches and boarded doors.
Recollections by R G Hart include “then there were the almshouses which were built for the poor of the village by Mr Chaplin of Northfield Farm”.
The almshouses were renovated in 2002 and now each have 1 bedroom, and they cater for retired residents (or previous residents) of Fulbourn village.
