Deer Island is the least-explored of the three major Fundy Isles, alongside its better-known companions Campobello and Grand Manan. Its history is replete with fishing, smuggling, fishing, smuggling, fishing and surprisingly a long-defunct fox-fur farm. The island sits just above the largest whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere wherein the Stover Brothers and others have drowned in days-long-past, though no danger in the past century of modern safeguards and ships.
