We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we have earned the privilege of hosting a 2025 Community Celebration Event celebrating the 25 years of Geocaching. Ruth and I have only been geocaching for 24 years. In the spring of 2001 I was listening in the late night on an AM radio to a Chicago radio station show being presented by Kim Korando "America's Digital Goddess" . She was talking about a new technical hobby called Geocaching. At that time Geocaching was not heard about very much. I looked up Geocaching.com and discovered that there was a Geocache in Oakwoods Metropark called Squirrel Nutkin by Jeff and Denise. (I thought that must be the way to make a geocaching name so that is why I chose Stan&Ruth.) I didn’t own a GPS but I had a map that showed Latitude and longitudes in that part of the county so I went on a hike with my two grand daughters to see if we could find the geocache. No luck! (I later discovered that we had come within about 50 feet!) In a few weeks I received my new yellow Garmin Etrex GPS. I then discovered that there was a new geocache very nearby in Elizabeth Park: "Simply Elizabethan" by Rob & Cindy. (See what I mean!)
