The return of my annual baked good themed event. I picked freestone peaches at my neighbour's tree & decided to try to make a baked good with peaches for this year's event. I went on-line & found a recipe for peach muffins & I experimented and made them. Did you know that peaches are part of the rose family & related to almonds. The Niagara region is the heart of peach cultivation in Canada, producing the vast majority of the country's crop due to its unique climate & fertile soil. They can be picked from late July to September. Niagara produces 80 % of Canada's peaches. Niagara-on-the Lake & Winona have peach festivals. There are many ways to use them; peach pie, cobbler, crisp, smoothies, muffins, jam & of course peach sundaes.
The record for the largest peach in Canada belongs to a peach grown in Kelowna,B.C. The peach weighed 810 grams and was sent to the Guinness Book of World Records in 2016. Did you know that the fuzzy skin of a peach acts as a protective layer. Peaches are a good source of fiber, vitamins & antioxidants. There are thousands of different types of peaches worldwide, with varying characteristics like white or yellow flesh.
