Geocache Description:

A series of caches on the theme of trees, takes you to discover the Valensole place.

Valensole and its plateau, nearly 12,700 hectares is best known for its fields of wheat and lavender snow-covered mountains and blue sky.

Yet we find there four types of terrain:

• The meadows or lawns, consisting of annual herbaceous plants, cozy cradle of Ophrys, small orchids around the Mediterranean.

• The scrubland formed small low bushes of aromatic plants.

• The maquis area of shrub or bushy species, usually prickly.

• The woods and forests, dominated by oak and Aleppo pine.

Beware though, the lavender flowering season in June-July is also where bees gather the most and they can sometimes be aggressive if disturbed in their work or in the vicinity of many hives.

Ficus carica L. with the vernacular names Fig tree, Edible Fig tree or Common Fig tree, is a fruit tree of the Moraceae family which produces edible fruits called figs. It is more rarely called Fig tree of Caria in reference to the ancient city in Asia Minor or "Caricaceae tree".

The Edible Fig tree is one of the important plants of the Mediterranean basin, where it has been cultivated for thousands of years.

It is the only European representative of the genus Ficus which includes nearly six hundred species, most of them tropical. It can live up to 300 years and reaches its full production around 7 years.

The descriptions of the trees come from Wikipedia.
