チャート
チャートは堆積岩の一種で、主成分は二酸化ケイ素です。放散虫などの生物の死骸が海底に堆積して生成したと考えられています。
チャートには、含まれている成分に応じて、さまざまな色が見られます。また、硬く、釘でも傷がつかないという性質があります。

高知城の石垣のほとんどは、チャートでできています。それは、チャートが付近で多く採集できたからだと考えられます。

Theme of this EarthCache
The stone walls of Kochi Castle use a rock called "chert." Let's learn about the characteristics of chert.
Chert
Chert is a type of sedimentary rock primarily composed of silicon dioxide. It is believed to have formed from the remains of organisms like radiolarians, which accumulated on the seafloor.
Chert comes in various colors depending on the elements it contains. It is also known for its hardness, making it resistant to scratches, even from nails.

The Stone Walls of Kochi Castle
Most of the stone walls of Kochi Castle are made of chert. This is likely because chert was abundant in the surrounding area.
Chert in Kochi City
In addition, chert pebbles can also be found at Katsurahama Beach in Kochi City. If you have the chance to visit, take a closer look. Photos attached to your log are welcome too.
