Geocache Description:

I'm really excited to introduce you to the lovely Meredith Park.  A place that you can camp for free and includes lovely scenery, toilets, fire pits and picnic tables.

While you can stay for one night or even 28 nights, Meredith Park is called home to a special little endangered skink called the Corangamite Water Skink.

Meredith Park, a 6-hectare area of Lake Colac shoreline, located 12km north of Colac, was opened in October 2010 to celebrate the town's 150th anniversary and is a popular spot for recreation and fishing.

Meredith Park is situated on the shoreline of Lake Colac, which is part of the Corangamite basin formed by volcanic activity that blocked the natural outflow of Deans Creek and Barongarook Creek.

Meredith Park offers various recreational activities, including fishing (redfin and carp are common catches).

The Corangamite Water skink was first discovered in 1963. Its preferred habitat is basalt ridges and boulder heaps with Hugh shrub density with nearby freshwater bodies.

At 2 to 3 years of age females can produce clutches of 2-7 live young per year.

A big threat to the skinks is habitat loss.

The cache is large enough for swag so feel free to bring swaps.

Please leave the pen and logbook for future cachers.

I hope you can take your time here.  Perhaps rest a while taking in the view while working out the coordinates on a picnic table.
