The huge, beautiful bells are a main feature of Visitation Cemetery. They belonged to a now gone Catholic Church. As you enter pause to imagine the thunderous dual gonging they would have made as they called the congregants to worship. They were taken from the bell tower of Visitation Church when it was torn down and stored until their current use. The bells are mounted directly where the front entrance of the church used to be. The then vacant area behind the bells soon became part of the existing cemetery to the north and west. In 1981, Visitation Church of North Dorr merged with St. Mary's Catholic Church of New Salem about 2 miles away. The combined parish became St. Mary's Visitation.
