Welcome to Cartersville, located in Garrard County Kentucky. This cache will bring you to a site where a small country church began in 1884. As of the publishing of this cache, that means there has been a church on this property for 140+ years. The original building was a small wooden building, The brick building you see now was constructed in the 1970's, and the stained glass windows were retrofitted and added in the 1990's. The name of the church reflects the importance of salt licks in this area and the attraction of wildlife for hunting and food source for the early settlers to the area.

The congregation decided to build a themed playground that would be suitable for adults and children to enjoy since there were no convenient parks located nearby for families to acess close to home. Welcome to the Adult Sized Ark Playground. The construction on this playground began in 2016 and the labor was fully completed by members of this local church who were volunteers, and were construction and trades professionals. The playground offers this rural community a park-like setting for all to enjoy, just on the outskirts of Berea, KY and within 6 miles of I-75.

This church offers its playground to everyone to use free of charge, especially the local community, and asks that it be used during daylight hours only. There are also signs posted to play at your own risk and for children to have adult supervision. (If you wanted to have a reunion or event there, you'd need to contact the church to plan something larger than a small picnic.) The church property is nestled in the rolling foothills with a peaceful meandering creek flowing alongside its northern boundary, which children love to play in and adults love to listen to. There is also picnic pavillion if you decide to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy while on-site. There are no public restrooms, so please plan accordingly.

As time goes by, you'll also witness the construction of a store in the south-side field adjacent to the church. The owner of that property recently sold it and commercial construction is coming, therefore amenities like food, drinks, and supplies will be available in the years to come as you visit this site.

The geocache you will be seeking should be an easy park and grab, although you'll need to park on the pavement and walk across the grass to access it. You may need a vertically enhanced friend to make the grab easier. Enjoy the playground while you're on site. Reminder: this is an active church, so please be respectful of the property and service times while enjoying the geocache.
