Geelong's Annual Christmas CITO Cache In Trash Out® Event

Cleanup Cowies Creek @ Christmas!

WHAT: Clean up Cowies Creek in the area between Anakie Rd & Shanahan Drive

WHEN: Saturday December 7, 13:30 - 14:30. (Immediately following the nearby Lunch Event)

FURTHER DETAILS:

• The event is registered with Clean Up Australia - all participants are required to comply with CUA procedures
  • All children under the age of 15 must be supervised by a parent/guardian.
  • All individual participants must sign in at the event. Both QR code and manual sign in facilities will be available.
• A briefing will be held at the posted coordinates at 13:30 covering important safety details including:
  • SHARPS MANAGEMENT: During a site recce we found (and safely disposed of) a syringe in the area. A sharps collection container (and safe disposoal process) will be available on the day.
  • TERRAIN: The event is listed as a Terrain 2, this is the minimum terrain you will encounter in order to participate. We encourage those who feel capable & comfortable to venture closer to the creek, where you may encounter terrain up to about a T3.5, including the potential for gumboots/wading to help clear congestion points in the waterway.
  • WRIGGLE STICKS, NOPE ROPES & DANGER NOODLES: Snakes can be present in this area.
• Disposal of collected Rubbish:
  • A trailer will be available at the posted coordinates to place your collected rubbish in. Please endeavour to seperate any 10c drink containers so these can be recycled.
• Disposal of 10c Container Deposit Scheme Containers: 
  • There is a Container Depost Scheme collection point at this location. Any eligible containers collected, as well as any containers you may wish to bring with you will be recycled at this point with proceeds forwarded to Geocaching Victoria to assist in promoting geocaching within Victoria and putting on events like Cache of the Year Awards and Victorias first ever Block Party event!
• Come prepared:
  • Enclosed, robust footwear and gloves are Strongly recommended given the safety considerations noted above.
  • Be sunsmart: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek & Slide.
  • Anything else you may have (e.g. rubbish pickers) that may assist you on the day.
  • Rubbish Bags will be provided for those who do not have them. To minimise the amount of plastic garbage bags used we will be encouraging cachers to team up and use the bags supplied by Clean Up Australia.
  • We will also have some gloves supplied by Clean Up Australia, but please do not rely on these being available as a limited number are supplied and these events are usually well attended.
• Getting here:
  • By Car: There is parking available on site at the posted coordinates.
  • By Public Transport: Bus Route 22 has stops on Anakie Rd at the event location.
  • If coming by V/Line train you can connect to Bus Route 22 at either North Shore station (closest) or Geelong Station
•  Why not make a day of it?
  • The Geelong Annual Christmas events cover the entire day. Attend one, or attend them all! Feel free to also join:
    • Suscoe at Eastern Beach (08:30 - 09:00)
    • Donutholes at Friendship Park (13:00 - 13:30, same location as this event)
