Si può camminare lungo la pista ciclabile/pedonale dall'inizio del canale fino a dove il suo percorso si unisce a una strada circa un chilometro più verso mare. È un percorso preferito da ciclisti e pedoni di tutte le forme e dimensioni!
Monfalcone è una città insolita per molti motivi. Quando sono arrivato in Italia negli anni '80 mi è stata descritta come "l'ultima città italiana" nel senso che ciò che segue è la provincia di Trieste, storicamente austro-ungarica, e poi ci sono l'Istria e la Dalmazia, territorio slavo meridionale sebbene storicamente anche veneziano. La cache è posizionata lungo un canale navigabile, Canale Valentinis, attraverso il quale si può vedere il nome "Fincantieri" ben in vista. Questa è una società di costruzione navale, una delle più grandi al mondo, il cui cantiere navale di Monfalcone è reputato il più grande dell'emisfero occidentale. Costruiscono navi da crociera, enormi imbarcazioni, una dopo l'altra. Camminando un po' a sud dalla cache vedrai l'ultima in produzione. Fincantieri è anche la ragione di un altro aspetto interessante della città: la moderna cantieristica navale ha bisogno di un gran numero di saldatori qualificati, e tali lavoratori potrebbero essere trovati nell'Asia meridionale a costi molto più bassi rispetto ai lavoratori italiani locali. Una ricerca su Internet afferma che nel 2024 8000 su 30 000 abitanti di Monfalcone saranno di origine bengalese. Come monfalconese appena stabilito, trovo questo bello, ma disturba alcuni e alimenta sentimenti xenofobici. I luoghi di culto islamici sono vietati, il che è probabilmente una violazione dei diritti umani e, per assurdo, lo è anche il gioco del cricket! Posso capire, però, che alcune persone si pentano che la loro città natale abbia subito una trasformazione così drammatica in appena un paio di decenni.
La cache è un micro magnetico nascosto in un modo non molto originale. Potresti dover aspettare il tuo turno per sederti in panchina!

One can walk along the pedestrian/cycle track from the start of the canal until it path joins a street about a kilometre downstream. It's a favourite route for cyclists and walkers of all shapes and sizes!
Monfalcone is an unusual town in many ways. When I came to Italy in the 1980's it was described to me as "the last Italian town" in the sense that what comes next is the Province of Trieste, historically Austro-Hungarian, and then comes Istria and Dalmazia, South Slav territory although historically also Venetian. The cache is placed along a navigable waterway, Canale Valentinis, across which the name "Fincantieri" can be seen prominently displayed. This is a shipbuilding company, one of the biggest in the world, whose Monfalcone shipyard is reputedly the biggest in the Western Hemisphere. They build cruise liners, huge vessels, one after the other. Walking a bit to the south from the cache you will see the latest one in production. Fincantieri is also the reason for another interesting aspect of the town: modern shipbuilding needs large numbers of skilled welders, and such workers could be found in South Asia at much lower cost relative to local Italian workers. An internet search says that in 2024 8000 out of 30 000 inhabitants of Monfalcone are of Bangladeshi origin. As a newly settled Monfalconese I find this cool, but it disturbs some and feeds xenophobic feelings. Islamic places of worship are banned, which is probably a human rights violation, and absurdly, so is the game of cricket! I can understand though that some people will regret that their hometown has undergone such a dramatic transformation in just a couple of decades.
The cache is a magnetic micro hidden in a not very original way. You may have to wait your turn to sit down on the bench!
