Geocache Description:

This is another cache in the Faded Markers Series. This series will mainly focus on older, near forgotten burial plots of pioneers in the Niagara Region and beyond. The goal of this series is not ecessarily the length of the walk nor the difficulty of the find, but rather a simple reverence for those who came before us to shape our area.

Another cemetary, located in the middle of a field, bears witness to one of this area's pioneering families.

The Sherk Family , or Schurch, have been a major factor in the development of this region. Owning many acres of land, this family was able to bring about real change in the building of Niagara South.

If you have visited some of the other FMS caches, no doubt you have seen this name before, or have driven along a road(s) which bears the family name.

This cemetary is the final resting for almost 10 members of that family, with the oldest marker being that of Michael Sherk, son of Christian, dated November 9th 1863 aged 14 years.

There are still descendants residing within the area so this cemetary is well managed, so please be mindful when searching for this cache.

Have fun and happy caching!
