The Hope Library started in 1930 with the Fraser Valley Book Van. The Book Van travelled from Ladner to Hope covering approximately 2,600 square kms, and stopped at general stores, schoolhouses, and gas stations along the way. The books on board constantly changed as books were borrowed and returned. The first director of Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) was Dr. Helen Gordon Stewart, and HQ was in New Westminster with the main distribution centre in Chilliwack. Today the Hope Library plays a key role in the FVRL and is a wonderful resource for the community.
