This lock and lock container is hidden atop the Northwest Summit of the Windy Peak Hills, a great lonely location with excellent views. Travel to this geocache is a fairly straight-forward off-trail hike through a delightful open forest off of Hwy 40. A nice loop would traverse the West summit to the NW summit then back down to the road.
NW Summit of the Windy Peak Hills:
I followed along the ridge heading north from the Windy Peak Hills West Summit. It was a little bushwhacky in spots, but definitely not bad. Once atop the NW summit, a large clearing boasts great views to the west. Slightly further east, an open area close to the cache site provides views east to the foothills and beyond to the prairies. Although I didn't do it, I'm sure you could follow the ridge back west towards Hwy 40, making for a nice short hiking loop. This is a great option for shoulder-season hiking - just keep in mind there's a seasonal road closure that restricts vehicle traffic in the area.
