The Canadian Folk Music Walk of Fame is located along a beautiful stretch of Bank Street between Aylmer and Riverdale avenues.
It is dedicated to notable Canadian folk musicians and artists. Each foot-wide plaque is cast with the names of great musicians such as Leonard Cohen, Sylvia Tyson, and Gordon Lightfoot – each voted for by hundreds of Canadians from coast to coast.
The idea for the walk of fame came from the Ottawa Folklore Centre, located at 1111 Bank St. It was a music store and learning centre for people who want to play or sing folk music, offering lessons to as many as 1,000 people a week. The walk of fame would pass the store's door. They closed its doors in July 2015 due to bankruptcy.
How many Maple leaves did you find?
As I did this stroll myself, I noticed that maintenance was no longer a priority. Some are the bronze plaque, some are painted over red, some are filled in with cement (still a maple leaf can be seen) and some may have been covered for good. Winter seasonal weather will make this difficult!!
Here was my count (no spoils). 20+ total leaf locations and 5+ Folk artists. I may not have an acuate number as I usually get distracted on this beautiful part of Bank Street. If you decide to partake in this find, please post your results!!
