For a bit of a change come and help out with the monthly conservation morning at Lesnes Abbey organised by the Friends of Lesnes Abbey.
Meet at 10:00 with Marc from the Friends outside the cafe. They normally aim to head off by 10:10. However, for any late comers (which will likely include me this time) I'll follow on from the cafe at about 10:30.
Britain is one of the least bio-diverse countries in the world and many of our native species are threatened by a lack of suitable habitat. The group helps not only maintain the current woodland, but also create new areas where wild flowers or wildlife can flourish.
The activities that this group undertake are varied and seasonal and include undergrowth clearance, removal of shrubs and trees where they are blocking light, creating glades, keeping the heathland in shape and maintaining the various ponds.
This tends to be fairly active work and may require walking with tools to remote parts of the woods, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Wear boots suitable for muddy and overgrown land. Ideally bring your own gloves, although these can be provided. Do check the weather forecast and dress accordingly.
