Geocache Description:

Park Ranger Bonus Cache #4

Welcome to Westinghouse Park!

The City of Pittsburgh was gifted this 10.2 acre park in 1918 for the grand total of $1 by George Westinghouse III (Engineer's Society of Western Pennsylvania if we want to get technical). The site was previously owned by his father, George Westinghouse Jr and his wife Marguerite from 1871-1914. They had an estate consisting of a mansion called "Solitude", stables, and a private Laboratory (He was an inventor and industrialist). There was a 220 ft tunnel built as a go between the buildings that stood 8ft from floor to ceiling and 5 feet at the base. This tunnel is still intact today, but there are some points that are blocked due to the house being razed by the city in 1919 to create the park. There have been parts of the park that sank slightly due to these tunnels.

Westinghouse Park officially became an Arboretum on October 7, 2021 (George Westinghouse's 175th Birthday). There are over 30 trees marked with an identification tag, and if you go to the lone building in the park, there is a list of all the trees and where to find them on the wall.

Yoshino Cherry trees, among others, can be found in the park!

Log sheet is inside a plastic bag, but you will need your own pen/pencil. Please put this one back as you found it!

Congratulations to The_Jumping_Pig & RockLebster for CO-FTF!!
