Oregon Coast Trail
Arch Cape Section
OCT AC01 Troll Knoll

This cache is part of a series of hiking caches along northern sections of the
Oregon Coast Trail. This is the first cache in the Arch Cape section which
is 1.5 miles one-way.
The trailhead is at the east end of Shingle Mill Lane, the first road heading
east from Highway 101 north of the Arch Cape Tunnel. Limited parking can
be found there.
The trail starts along what looks very much like a driveway on the south side of
the street. Look for the small Oregon Coast Trail sign. After a
short distance, there is a very cool suspension bridge to cross and then you're
on the trail and ready for the first cache!
The Arch Cape section of the OCT ends at a large pullout and parking area on
Highway 101. You can also start the hike from here if you prefer.
Coordinates for both trailheads are in the Additional Waypoints for this
listing.
Due to switchbacks in the trails, the cache your GPS receiver tells you is the
next closest may not always be the next along the trail. Therefore, be sure to
navigate to the caches in the order (or reverse order) of the numbers in the
cache titles
Due to heavy tree cover and narrow valleys, GPS reception is
very limited. Please use the hints which should greatly help in locating the
caches. It also helps to approach each cache at a slow pace, allowing your
receiver to "settle down" and establish a good location.
Dogs are welcome (and often plentiful) along all the trails.
The trail is often slippery and the wooden bridges are usually VERY slippery.
Use extra caution on the bridges!
Enjoy the beautiful hike and the 11 caches along the way!
