Geocache Description:

Dundowran beach is extremely quiet and a favourite spot of mine to go if I ever need to clear my head. It is well worth the 2.5hr drive each way, its that quiet! Normally only inhabited by locals, even on weekends and holidays. If any say gday, just smile, wave and say hello.

This beach is a sheller's and birder's paradise as well, with many different species of both molluscs and birds being found here. Many of the beaches from here Northward to Burrum Heads open out to vast sandflats and mudflats at low tide. These flats play host to migratory shorebirds during the warmer months. They travel 20,000kms each year, to the Arctic Circle to breed and back to the Southern Hemisphere to fatten up until April. During these months, please respect these mighty little travellers and keep your distance to avoid startling them and loosing important energy reserves.

During the winter months however, is a perfect time to hunt for a large Baler shell, or Melo amphora, to add to your collection. They live beneath the tidal one and mud during low tide, but during high tides and night, they emerge to hunt primarily other molluscs, other bethnic invertebrates and carrion. If you are lucky, you can find a large empty shell from a recently deceased snail, which can be highly prized by collectors. I have placed this series here to attract cachers to this peaceful spot and to encourage exploring the area. I hope you enjoy your visit to Dundowran Beach!

(SAFETY WARNING! Please watch out for snakes, a local let me know that there are a few King Brown snakes around when I was placing these. Keep Fido on a tight leash!!!)

Whilst having my lunch, taking in the view, I was surprised to spot this gem of a secret not too far into the bush. The name says it all. As such, I decided to hide a cache here to highlight this great little spot. This is as far as I got on this trip, but expect more caches along here. I also noticed a lot of trash on my venture too. I took what I could, but much still remains. Please practice CITO if you can and leave no trace. Perhaps this beach will have a cito event sooner or later, to make a difference... Happy hunting!
