Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Redwoods in Los Altos to celebrate Midsommar (Mid-summer)!

This is a rerun of last year's Midsummer event in Sunnyvale, which I thought was a lot of fun, which is why the event page might look familiar. This is an old tradition after all, and not a lot has changed since last year (other than that my parents will not be in town for this one)

Traditionally, this is a weekend-long celebration in Sweden, where everyone who is willing and able leave the city and gather in cottages in the countryside to raise the Midsommar-pole and dance around it, play music and eat a lot of good food. You also tie flower ribbons to put in your hair. All in all it is a major party, and can get pretty wild.

A Swedish Midsommar meal should contain

Pickled herring
New potatoes boiled in dill
Meatballs (We don't call them Swedish meatballs in Sweden, naturally)
Quice made with aged (Wästerbotten) cheese
Fresh strawberries
Crackerbread

I will not be able to provide full meals, but there will be some samples to try for those who are interested.
