From the official Missouri State Parks brochure:
"Weston Bend State Park, located not far from the Kansas City metropolitan area, combines the lure of history with opportunities for relaxing and refreshing recreation.
Perched on loess-covered hills overlooking the Missouri River, the park features a shady campground with both basic and electric campsites. More than 10 miles of hiking and bicycling trails wind through the park and offer views of the Missouri River. The park's location near the river makes it a natural stop for birds migrating through in the spring and fall.
The area's rich history includes its association with the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which traveled up the Missouri River in 1804. The area began to prosper in the 1830s due in part to river traffic and its two main crops, tobacco and hemp. Exhibits in the park provide interesting information about the expedition, tobacco production and the importance of the area to migrating birds."
To get to the cache, you will need to go to the Weston Bend Scenic Overlook. Once there, if you look to the north, you will see a faint trail following the ridgeline to the north. Follow the ridgeline to the north, looking for a large leaning maple tree that grew around an old barbed wire fence. Once you find it, turn to the east and look under a rock between the trunks of a forked tree for the container.Â
The container is a clear gray Nalgene bottle with a blue cap. It contains a logbook, a pen, and some small items for trade. The container was originally placed by members of the 2024 West Platte cross country team after they qualified for the state cross country championship.
