Geocache Description:

A DAILY/ANNUAL NEBRASKA STATE PARK PERMIT IS REQUIRED TO ENTER MAHONEY STATE PARK

The building where this geocache is located is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Here at the Nature Center & Conservatory building you can explore the newly renovated nature center which has live animal exhibits and interactive nature activities. The nature center is connected to the conservatory, where you can see tropical plants and a working greenhouse. You can also enjoy time relaxing in the new serenity garden and birding area.

At the posted coordinates, there are four words on the side of the building to the right of the door, remember the letter count of each word and read on.

You will need to explore three areas inside this building to gather the needed information to open the padlock on the geocache container. Those areas are as follow :

AREA - A - From the posted coordinates enter the building through the single door to take the number of steps in the shortest word at the posted coordinates before you STOP, then turn right. Look up on the brick wall and you will see a large wooden sign with the state park logo in the center. How many words are on this sign? Answer = A.

AREA B - After completing the task in Area A, Turn to your left and pass through the doors leading into the conservatory room with waterfall and tropical plants. Explore this area with a short stroll along the path. How many wooden bridges are along the path? Answer = B.

AREA C - Return to the main hallway(Area A) and walk towards the nature center (other end of the hallway). On your left, you will notice informational signboards about animals. Each of these signboards has a two word title that starts with "Animal". Using the second word in each title, count the digits of the those words and then divide by the number of informational signboards. Answer = C.

Lock combination = ABC

Now that you have the lock combination, you are ready to find the letterbox container. Proceed to the corner of the hallway where the wall of Area A meets the wall to Area B. Here you will find a wooden table that has a hidden cubby hole that holds the containers. To access the cubby hole, LIFT the RIGHT side of the table top board (it is hinged on the left side). Once the cubby hole is accessable, you will find two containers. One container is for tradable items (remember if you take a tradable item, then please leave something of equal value). The second container has the padlock, and holds the logbook and stamp. Be sure to sign/stamp and date the logbook. The second container also has some swag/tradable items.

THE STAMP IS TO REMAIN WITH THE LOGBOOK IN THE PADLOCKED CONTAINER AND IS NOT A SWAG/TRADABLE ITEM.

After you stamp/sign and date the logbook, and swapping of tradable items, replace and reset the padlock. Gently place both containers back into the cubby hole before closing the tabletop board to conseal the cubby hole.

The nature center area of the building is only open certain days and times. If it is open, please take some time to explore the exhibits and activities. This area is excellant for kids of all ages.
