Minnesota Northwestern Electric Railway
1914 - 1940
____________________
The Minnesota Northwestern Electric Railway was a short interurban railroad in Pennington County that operated between Thief River Falls, Mavie, and Goodridge. Passengers and freight were carried over the 20 miles of railroad using the company's diesel - electric locomotive unit. Goodridge was at the end of the line, and plans for the railroad proposed a connection to International Falls. There is a map inside the depot that demonstrates the lofty goal of reaching International Falls through peat bogs of Beltrami Island. Financial problems doomed the Minnesota Northwestern and ceased operations in 1940, so Goodridge was as far east as the railroad ever reached. The depot here in A.C. Tvedt Park is perhaps the only piece of the railroad's existence.
The depot is a part of the Goodridge Area Historical Society and is open during seasonal limited hours.
