This is located on the Oregon Trail. You’ll want to bring a picnic lunch and your family and visit the Three Island State Park about a half-mile away.

The mighty Snake River was the single most formidable river in the path of the early pioneers between St. Louis Missouri and the Oregon coast. The river crossing near Three Island State Park was extremely dangerous. Many wagons and animals were lost in this crossing.

Gustavus Glenn a local rancher and Ken Lewis built the first commercial ferry service in the area. The teamsters driving the heavy freight wagons preferred this route. In 1870 Mr. Glenn bought out Mr. Lewis, then Mr. Glenn built a post office in the ferry house and became the first postmaster. This ferry service survived well into the twentieth century. The tiny community of Glenns Ferry Idaho still is here today.
