Many of the old roads in Ontario did not meet at a right-angled corner. It must have been decided after stop signs were invented that safety at intersections required visual clearance. Thus created these little plots of land which often are referred to as "gores". Gore Park in Hamilton is the same shape as is Gore Road in Flamborough.
