Geocache Description:

Congrats to Offspringin on the first to find honors!!

There was a cache here with a 2003 year on it that we got when we first started geocaching.  Hate to see oldies get archived but it had been missing for some time.  Hopefully we can keep this one going, although there are a lot of sketchy people that roam this area a lot.  Park is open from 05:00-dark but can be accessed when the gates are locked.  Just have to park at the nearby car wash or store parking lot and walk to the cache.  Log is rite n rain paper so no worries about getting wet.  Please place back after finding.

Fisherman's Dam Park is an old hydroelectric station from 1924-1948 and was the sole source of electricity for the Shelbyville area. At some point in my 55 years it was transferred over to the park system to maintain the grass areas of the park.  To my understanding the gravel bed is controlled by the state, minimally I might add, but we do have a garbage can that the park maintains.  If you are looking to fish it's much better walking underneath the bridge and continuing northwest along a trail and fishing there.  It's fished much less and the water is much slower.  Until early 2024 there were many homeless camps but they cleaned these out and passed a law making it illegal to camp now.  Still some homeless around from time to time but much better now. During the summer there are people swimming, fishing and boating along the river here.  There is an old tale that there was a cannon rolled off the cliff here during the Civil War but to my knowledge it's been looked for many times with no luck.  Very shallow water near the bridge so no way for it to hide.
