How to Find the Cache

Start at the Published Coordinates out in the parking lot!

This is a Gadget Cache that requires you to manipulate some pieces on the container to unlock it for access to the inside. You'll need a number code. You'll find this code by carefully reading about a guy named Petr at the published coordinates for this cache. The code question is, in what year did Petr visit a nearby Trading Post while exploring the Kenai Peninsula?

After finding the answer to the question above, navigate to the Cache Access Point coordinates in the Waypoint list for this cache. After passing through this double portal into the lobby, your GPS will become ineffective. As you look around, there are four (4) corridors or doorways leaving the lobby to the interior of the building. Look for the one just to the right of a pair of white Oldsquaw ducks resting on a wall platform. There is also a pair of Magpies resting on a stump above the corridor. When you enter this corridor, you'll want to search the first alcove to your left.

To get detailed directions to the cache with a spoiler hint on how to open the container, go to the following Certitude link and enter Petr's last name.

You can validate your solution with certitude.

This cache contains a self-inking Letterbox Stamp. The Stamp is NOT a trade item and must remain inside the cache. If you carry a personal logbook for Letterboxing, use this custom stamp to mark your log and use your personal stamp to mark the logbook in this cache. You may also use it to stamp your Northwest GeoTour passport, though this is not required to get credit for finding this cache.

This cache is placed with full permission from the Executive Director and the Staff is aware of its presence. You do not need to use stealth to find it. If you have difficulty solving the code to access the cache, you may ask Staff or send a message to the Cache Owner. We want you to find it and solve the easy puzzle to access it. If there are any problems with the cache, you may send a direct message to the Cache Owner or to local cacher SSO JOAT so we can get things back in order right away.

After opening the cache and signing the logbook, please replace the contents exactly as found. You must leave the code entered into the mechanism until you have closed the door. Once the door is shut, please return all parts of the mechanism back to their closed position.

Please trade fair. However, you should see a number of small gold coins in the trade bin. Every finder may take ONE coin as a souvenir of finding this cache.

Are you traveling from out of state for this cache? If you are arriving in Anchorage, you can get here by air or highway. The highway is a roughly 150-mile drive from Anchorage that will take about 3 hours, each way. To fly in, look for commuter flights to the Kenai airport. Flights between Anchorage and Kenai are frequent throughout the day. Once at the Kenai airport, you could take a taxi cab or even walk to the cache. It's only one mile with a nice sidewalk the whole way.

If you're driving to the Kenai from Anchorage, have a look at the official KMTA GeoTrail series that runs from Girdwood to Hope to Cooper Landing to Seward along the Seward and Sterling Highways. KMTA GeoTrail Bookmark List

We hope that you enjoy your experience enough to write a fun log of your adventures, however we respectfully ask that you do NOT post any hints or spoilers in your online log or post any photos of the cache or the objects located at the published coordinates that you used to solve the access code. Logs with spoilers or spoiler images will be immediately removed without warning and we'll ask you to write a new log without spoilers. Thank you for keeping the game fun for everyone!

To get credit for finding a GeoTour cache, you must legibly enter your geocaching handle into the logbook inside the cache. Finds claimed without a physical logbook entry will be removed, per GCHQ guidelines.
