Il nuraghe Arrubiu (ovvero in lingua sarda il “nuraghe Rosso”) deve la propria denominazione al ferro contenuto nelle pietre basaltiche che determina le sfumature rosse dei licheni. E’ uno dei nuraghi più grandi della Sardegna e occupa una superficie di circa 300 mq.
Il complesso nuragico risale al 1.400 a.C. circa, il suo crollo è stato datato al IX secolo a.C. per cause ancora non certe e rimase disabitato fino al 100 a.C. quando arrivarono i Romani. Secondo gli studiosi è uno dei pochi nuraghi costruiti con un progetto planimetrico unitario ed è composto da una torre centrale svettata in origine alta circa 27 metri, un cortile interno dotato di pozzo per il drenaggio delle acque piovane, cinque torri laterali collegate tra loro da possenti mura rettilinee e infine varie torri perimetrali costruite in epoche successive per un totale di 21 torri.
Tra i materiali rinvenuti il più importante è un alabàstron (un vasetto) micenèo risalente al 1.400 a.c. che testimonia le relazioni tra la Civiltà Nuragica e quella Micenea.

La cache si trova presso la biglietteria. Per loggarla non è necessario acquistare il biglietto, tuttavia la visita al Nuraghe Arrubiu è vivamente consigliata. Orari di apertura: tutti i giorni dalle 9.30 fino al tramonto.
Nuraghe Arrubiu (or in the Sardinian language, the “Red Nuraghe”) owes its name to the iron contained in the basaltic stones that determines the red hues of the lichens. It is one of the largest nuraghi in Sardinia and occupies an area of about 300 square meters.
The nuragic complex dates back to about 1.400 B.C., its collapse has been dated to the 9th century B.C. due to as yet uncertain causes, and it remained uninhabited until 100 B.C. when the Romans arrived. According to scholars, it is one of the few nuraghi built with a unified plan design and consists of a soaring central tower originally more than 27 meters high, an inner courtyard equipped with a well for the drainage of rainwater, five side towers connected by mighty rectilinear walls, and finally several perimeter towers built in later periods for a total of 21 towers.
Among the materials found, the most important is a Mycenaean alabàstron (a jar) dating to 1.400 B.C., which testifies to the relations between the Nuragic and Mycenaean Civilizations.

The cache is at the ticket office: to log it it's not necessary to pay the ticket, but a visit the Nuraghe Arrubiu is highly recommended.
