Immergiti in una rigogliosa foresta di lecci e lasciati rapire da una misteriosa leggenda sarda. Si narra che le Janas – fate temute e venerate nella tradizione popolare – vivessero nascoste alla vista degli uomini, dedite a creare dolci e prelibatezze. La leggenda racconta di tre Janas accusate di aver impiccato un frate che le aveva incolpate di cucinare frittelle durante la Quaresima. Per questa colpa, le fate e il frate furono trasformati in pietra da una punizione divina. La grotta, di formazione carsica, si estende per 240 metri: al suo interno si raggiunge la sala ovoidale, conosciuta come S’Onu de is Janas, dove si trovano le imponenti figure pietrificate delle tre fate. Oltre al fascino mitologico, la grotta è di grande rilevanza archeologica: al suo interno sono stati rinvenuti cocci di vasellame e ciotole risalenti al Neolitico sardo, circa 3.000 a.C.
Immerse yourself in a lush forest of holm oaks and let yourself be enchanted by an ancient Sardinian legend. It is said that the Janas – feared and revered fairies of Sardinian folklore – lived in secret, crafting delicious sweets far from prying eyes. According to legend, three Janas were accused of hanging a friar who blamed them for making fritters during Lent. As divine punishment, the Janas and the friar were turned to stone. The karstic cave stretches for 240 meters: if you venture inside, you will reach the oval chamber known as S’Onu de is Janas, where the imposing petrified figures of the three fairies reside. Beyond its mythical allure, the cave is archaeologically significant. Pottery shards and bowls dating back to the Sardinian Neolithic period, around 3.000 BC, have been discovered within.
