D'Art
The Celestial Feline Riverbox honors the memory of DAC's beloved gallery cat, D'Art who passed away in 2022. A loveable orange and white kitty, D'Art served as docent, social media influencer, and everyone's favorite DAC staff member for over a decade.
Celestial Feline, was created by Andrew Lundberg, in mid-2024.
In my sculpture, "The Celestial Feline," I sought to capture the enigmatic allure of the cat, a creature that has long been associated with mystery and magic. The sundial, an ancient tool for measuring time by the sun, is reimagined here as a conduit for celestial energy, channeled through the cat's gaze. The focal point of the piece is the cat's eyes, rendered in glass tile and timeless bronze. They are not merely windows to the soul, but portals to a higher plane of existence. The third eye, a symbol of intuition and spiritual awareness, is prominently displayed, suggesting the cat's ability to perceive unseen forces and tap into a deeper understanding of the universe. Through this work, I invite viewers to contemplate the interconnectedness of all things, the rhythms of nature, and the mysteries that lie beyond our everyday perception. The cat, with its celestial eyes and intuitive wisdom, serves as a guide, reminding us to trust our instincts, embrace the unknown, and seek a deeper connection to the cosmos.
