A quick Cache-n-Dash for those headed west on Route 80.
The cache gets its name from the mythical Captain Harry Greene who was reportedly murdered with his militia by marauding Native Americans in 1801 just about one mile south of here in the now eponymic Green Gap. There is a memorial stone just off the next I-80 exit (Jersey Shore) and more information, including skepticism about the historical accuracy or even existance of Captain Green, can be found across numerous blogs and 'official' posts. The marker was placed in 1916 to commemorate the battle, and today sits in front of the gas station at the Jersey Shore exit.
